Baby Shank
Set within a historic building along D.C.’s U Street corridor, Baby Shank was designed as a moody, sophisticated dining experience with a subtle Parisian influence. The restaurant occupied multiple levels, including dining, bar, lounge, and rooftop spaces, allowing each area to develop its own character while maintaining a cohesive identity throughout.

A dramatic palette of deep navy and black establishes an intimate backdrop, softened by warm wood floors, marble tabletops, and rich blue drapery. Overhead, a custom grid of exposed globe lighting transforms the ceiling into a defining architectural feature, casting a warm glow across the dining room and creating a sense of drama from the moment guests enter.
At the bar, layered bottle displays, dark finishes, and warm metallic accents create a polished focal point, while botanical-patterned upholstery and cascading greenery introduce moments of color and softness. Classic café-style seating and tailored details balance the more contemporary elements, giving the space an atmosphere that feels both timeless and unexpected.
The result is a dark, romantic and richly layered restaurant and bar that blends classic European influence with a modern D.C. edge, creating an intimate setting designed to transition effortlessly from dinner and cocktails to late-night gatherings.
