Yalla
Inspired by the energy and hospitality of Beirut, Yalla was designed as a lush rooftop escape in the heart of D.C.’s U Street corridor. The concept centered around the Middle Eastern tradition of gathering, creating an environment that could transition from intimate, communal dining into a lively late-night destination.

The glass-enclosed rooftop is transformed through layers of cascading greenery, flowering botanicals, hanging gardens, and climbing vines, creating the feeling of dining within an urban conservatory. A palette of warm whites, natural textures, soft greens, and brass keeps the space light and refined, while patterned mosaic tile across the bar introduces an intricate, Mediterranean-inspired detail.
Arched niches with integrated lighting create a sculptural backdrop for the bar, while woven bistro stools, marble surfaces, sheer drapery, and lantern-style lighting bring softness and warmth throughout. Abundant planting blurs the boundary between indoors and out, with intimate seating moments tucked among palms and greenery. The design intentionally supports Yalla's evolution throughout the evening, from a sun-filled restaurant centered around shared plates to an energetic rooftop lounge after dark.
The result is a lush, transportive rooftop experience that brings the warmth, vibrancy, and communal spirit of the Middle East to Washington, D.C.
